James Madsen

James Madsen is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney with an Honours degree in Music Education, and has also gained his Orff Schulwerk Certificate of Accreditation Level 3. He has had wide teaching experience at a number of schools locally and overseas, including the International Grammar School and Cranbrook Junior School in Sydney. In London he taught at the Henrietta Barnett School, King Alfred School and Laycock Primary School. Currently he teaches full-time at Reddam House private school in Sydney. James is also a private music tutor, teaching piano, voice, musicianship and composition.
James is a noted performer and children’s music entertainer. Appearing as ‘Jamie’, he has composed and produced his own album of children’s songs, and presents his ‘Jam on Toast’ concerts and workshops around Australia. He is also a multi-instrumentalist member of the professional band Toast, performing for ceremonies, functions and corporate events.
As a composer, James has also made a name for himself around Australia. He has been the featured composer at a number of Australian music education conferences and festivals, and was the winner of the Australian Voices Young Composers Award in 2001 for the vocal work “The Elements”. James regularly composes and arranges music scores for various instrumental ensembles, choirs, solo works, music classroom resources, and music for film and television.
