Joy Lee

Joy Lee is a distinguished music educator who has held many leading positions in Australia and overseas. Her professional musical life has been multi-stranded, ranging from teaching violin & viola at tertiary level, directing chamber orchestras in the UK and Australia to performing full time in the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Presently Joy Lee is Artistic Mentor of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Open Academy Rising Stars program.

Former positions have included: -Head of Young Academy, Australian National Academy of Music, Melbourne. -Director of the Young Musicians Programs, Australian Institute of Music, Sydney. -Head of Preparatory Division, SCM, University of Sydney. -Head Lecturer in violin, viola, chamber music and director of Outreach Programs, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, Hong Kong. -Director of the string department Sydney Grammar School. -Musical Director of Sydney Youth Orchestra, for 10 years, touring the SYO chamber orchestra to the USA & Canada, and the SYO to Singapore.

Joy Lee was the first President of the Australian String Teachers Association, NSW Branch. She organized and chaired multiple conferences in Sydney with major international educators, also participating in, and organizing conferences in Sydney and throughout NSW.

Joy Lee studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire, UK with Lena Wood and at the Salzburg Mozarteum, with Paul Doktor.
