Rising Stars – Electives
Chamber Music Elective
This elective course gives a limited number of students the opportunity to form small ensembles (usually trios or quartets) to gain important experience of collaborating with other talented musicians. They receive tuition on the specifics of performing as part of a small ensemble. There are 10 Chamber Music classes in each semester.
Students are able to audition for, and join, just the chamber music aspect of the Rising Stars program if they are not able to attend the main program. Please visit our 'How to Apply' page for audition information.
Composition elective
This elective course gives a limited number of students the opportunity to study composition at a more detailed level. Compositional skills are introduced through a wide range of approaches – listening, score study, discussion and analysis. Students work on both assigned skills-based tasks as well as their own creative projects with guided stages of achievement and have the opportunity to perform their works in a concert at the end of the term. Compositions will be workshopped and discussed as a group, as well as fostering a collaborative approach to music making. There are 10 Composition classes in each semester.
