Rising Stars – Electives
Chamber Music Elective
This elective course gives a limited number of students the opportunity to form small ensembles (usually trios or quartets) to gain important experience of collaborating with other talented musicians. They receive tuition on the specifics of performing as part of a small ensemble. There are 10 Chamber Music classes in each semester.
Students are able to audition for, and join, just the chamber music aspect of the Rising Stars program if they are not able to attend the main program. Please visit our ‘How to Apply’ page for audition information.
This elective course gives a limited number of students the opportunity to study composition at a more detailed level. Compositional skills are introduced through a wide range of approaches – listening, score study, discussion and analysis. Students work on their own creative projects and have the opportunity to perform their works in a concert at the end of the term. There are 10 Composition classes in each semester.
Classes are taught by Joe Manton, an experienced and enthusiastic educator with a special focus on music technology, who currently teaches composition in the tertiary program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His lifelong passion and commitment to music and education is exemplified by his many successes and the success of his students. Joe is an award-winning composer who is completing his PhD in Composition at the Conservatorium, after gaining his Masters and achieving first class honours in his Bachelor degree in the same. He also writes his own music software and performs regularly in a range of styles with many different ensembles.
