David Pudney

David Pudney began his musical career in a small band with the Morrison brothers in the late 1970’s playing first piano, then electric and double bass. He began touring Australia with Don Burrows and James Morrison in 1981 and later toured with George Golla in various small group settings led by Don Burrows.
He received a scholarship to study jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and graduated with merit and top of his year in 1984. Since then, he has played in bands with artists including Julian Lee, Kerrie Biddell, John Nicol, Bob Barnard, Judy Bailey, James Morrison, Mike Nock, Chuck Yates and many more.
David is currently playing with the Don Burrows Quartet, the Kevin Hunt Trio, the Marie Wilson Quartet, the Joy Mulligan Quartet, the Adrian Cunningham Quartet, Newcastle group Saxanova, a recent stint with Galapagos Duck and various other casual engagements. David is also a regular member of the Sydney All Stars Big Band, which has backed Tom Burlinson in his hit show “Frank - A Life In Song” for the last 8 years.
David has been involved with the Yamaha School Band Festival as an adjudicator for the last 10 years as well as guest adjudication appearances at Maitland and The City of Sydney Eisteddfod. He is also on staff at Avondale College, teaching double bass and electric bass, and Wesley College in Sydney, teaching double bass and electric bass and running keyboard fundamentals classes. He joined the Open Academy at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2008 to teach Impro Basics as part of the Community Open Program.
