Daniel Henderson

Born in Perth, Daniel began learning the trumpet at the age of 10. Throughout high school he studied with David Elton and in 2009 began his Bachelor of Music at the University of Melbourne studying with Tristram Williams. In 2012 Daniel was accepted in the inaugural intake of Brass at the Australian National Academy of Music to continue study with David Elton and Tristram Williams. Daniel furthered his musical studies in Boston in 2014 and 2015 where he studied with Thomas Rolfs, the Principal Trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. It was during this time that Daniel was also a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center in the summers of 2014 and 2015.
Upon returning to Sydney, Daniel was awarded the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Trumpet Fellowship in 2016. As part of his development as an orchestral musician, Daniel participated in many of the Australian Youth Orchestra programs, and was the Principal Trumpet of the Australian Youth Orchestra in 2014. He was also a member of the Sydney Sinfonia in 2013 and 2014. He was invited back by the Australian Youth Orchestra as a tutor in 2016 to tutor the Young Symphonists program in Parramatta.
Daniel is sought after as an orchestral musician, having performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Daniel has also performed as Guest Principal Trumpet with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and the Opera Australia Orchestra in Sydney, and as Acting Associate Principal Trumpet of Orchestra Victoria and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Daniel has also performed as a chamber musician on many occasions with Sydney Brass.
