Tamara OBrien

Born in Sydney, Tamara O’Brien studied music at the University of New South Wales with a major in piano performance. She completed a B.Mus/B.Ed in 2000, going on to teach music in primary and high schools. She joined the teaching staff at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Open Academy and completed a Graduate Diploma in Education with a major in Orff Music at the Australian Catholic University.
In 2003 she was accepted to study at the Australian Film Television and Radio School where she completed the Screen Composition course. Tamara wrote music for several short films, documentaries and a 3D animation while studying at the AFTRS.In 2004 Tamara was given a grant by the Australian Embassy in Berlin to attend the Berlinale Talent Campus, part of the Berlin Film Festival. Tamara also won the 2004 APRA Professional Development Award for Film and Television and travelled to Hong Kong and Los Angeles where she attended workshops and furthered her skills in conducting screen music.
More recently, Tamara was nominated for a 2005 MPSE (Motion Picture Sound Editors) Golden Reel in Los Angeles. In 2006 she was given a Skills and Arts Development Grant by the Australia Council for the Arts and was the winner of a prestigious Music Oz Award for Best Classical Artist.
Tamara is currently scoring for short films, feature films and documentaries from her studio. She also teaches early childhood music programs for the Open Academy.
