Roger Lock is a graduate of the Salzburg Mozarteum, where he studied with Marco Tamayo, Alexander Müllenbach and Michele Gaggia, and of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, where he trained under Oscar Ghiglia. He has performed as a soloist throughout Europe, Australia and Japan, and in 2002 was awarded Third Prize at the Nürtingen International Guitar Competition.
His collaborations in Vienna and Australia have included work with Yorgos Nousis, Dr Opin, Troebinger and Roger Vs The Man, the latter praised in the Daily Review for its “near peerless musicianship and songwriting craft”. He also produced Laetitia Ribeiro's award nominated debut album Scream, and Lindsey Nolan's debut album The Rabbit & The Tiger.
Roger has written and performed extensively in Japan, collaborating with Hitoshi Sakimoto, Makoto Shinkai, Akafumi Tada and Yasonori Mitsuda. In 2015 he composed a work for Emma Sholl and Jane Rosenson, later featured on their debut album Vignettes.
Since 2016 he has collaborated closely with Max Lambert on many theatre productions, including the Australian premiere of Lynn Nottage’s Clyde’s, Diving for Pearls, The Literati, The Misanthrope, Billionaire Boy, Letters to Lindy and the Australian premiere of Primary Trust. They have also performed together in Lambert's acclaimed musicals Darlinghurst Nights and Miracle City.
Alongside his creative work, Roger has lectured in guitar, composition and performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Southern Cross University and the University of New South Wales.
