Young Kwon Choi

Young Kwon began his musical studies in Seoul. Born into a musical family, he started at an early age accompanying his mother's choir. In Sydney he attended the Conservatorium High School and was a recipient of the Vimpani Scholarship at the Sydney Conservatorium studying under Dr Paul Rickard-Ford. He is a graduate of the Hochschule für Musik Graz, the Royal Academy of Music London and the International Piano Academy Lake Como where he majored in solo piano and collaborative piano studies with a focus on liedgestaltung and chamber music.
Young Kwon is a recipient of numerous awards including the Bösendorfer Competition and the ABC Young Performers Awards. He was the last recipient of the David Paul Landa Scholarship for pianists awarded by Arts NSW and Musica Viva Australia.
He has given recitals internationally in major concert houses including Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Center, Southbank Centre, Wigmore Hall, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées Paris, Fuchu Art Centre Tokyo and the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center. He has given performances at the Musikverein Graz with the Grazer Philharmonic, recitals at the Musikverein in Vienna, live recitals for ORF 1 Austria and performed with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. In previous seasons, he has toured Australia with recitals for Musica Viva Australia, and as soloist with Australian Orchestras.
With a passion for all things collaboration and a focus in chamber music, he performs with leading ensembles and renowned artists with residencies at the Seoul Art Center. He currently works in numerous institutions around the world including the Sydney Conservatorium where he works with the tertiary collaborative department.
