Irene Stone: B.A., Dip. Ed., Grad. Dip. Primary Music, A.Mus.A. (Organ)
Irene completed her Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education at Sydney University, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Primary Music through UTS and has worked with experts in the field of children’s music such as Richard Gill.
She worked at Pymble Ladies College for nearly 30 years as their Junior School Music/Performing Arts specialist. During this time, she introduced and developed an Orff-based music programme which aimed to develop the musical skills that formed a basis for creative experimentation and composition, through singing, moving, playing and performing.
Irene is also an accomplished instrumentalist on both recorder and organ. Irene is strongly involved in recorder playing, and established recorder ensembles at a number of levels throughout PLC. She is also involved with adult musical groups through the Sydney Society of Recorder Players where she performs and conducts workshops. As the PLC Junior School organist, she arranged musical items for concerts and special events.
Irene has conducted and accompanied choirs, and formed and conducted varied instrumental ensembles. She has also regularly run a Gifted and Talented Workshop in Music for the Northside Gifted and Talented Network, and involved the PLC Junior School musicians in community events.
Irene enjoys watching children discover the joys of music and helping them develop the skills on which they can build a musical future.
