Colin Grisdale

Colin Grisdale began playing trumpet at 8 years of age at York Primary School under the tuition of Raymond ‘Lofty’ Gallagher, winning his first competition later that year. He then attended the Conser- vatorium High School. During this time he twice performed as soloist at the Sydney Opera House, Toured the USA as guest soloist with the Sydney Schools Singers, won numerous competitions and at the age of 16 gained his AmusA with Distinction. After Achieving a perfect score for Extension Music and performing at Encore, Colin attended the Sydney Conservatorium where he was principal Trumpet of the Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra for 4 years touring South America, New Caledo- nia and Europe. He twice performed Concertos as soloist with the Conservatorium Orchestra whilst studying Diploma in music performance and Graduate Diploma of Music performance as well as gain- ing his LMusA.
Colin currently works with the Opera Australia Orchestra (formerly Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra) where he regularly performs as a guest principal trumpet. He also works with the Sydney Symphony and has played with numerous Theatre, Professional and youth Orchestra’s including the English Royal Ballet, Sydney Sinfonia, Sydney Philharmonia, The West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Victorian Opera, Sydney Concert Orchestra, Sydney Festival Orchestra and Australian youth Orchestra as well as touring China on two occasions with his brass quintet, who play at St Andrews Cathedral, Sydney. He also works as a session musician playing on numerous film soundtracks, com- mercial and solo works as well as performing regularly as a soloist in recitals and concerts around Syd- ney. Colin is married to French Hornist Katy Grisdale and has two beautiful sons, Owen (5 years) and Benedict (3 years).
