Elana Stone
Resume
Raw, soulful, and uplifting, Elana Stone presents a powerful combination of skillful musicianship, a commanding stage presence and damn good songwriting. Elana centres her music around her powerful, flexible voice, which ranges from blazing, Janis Joplin style soul, rock and roll, and Joni Mitchell-esque piano balladry.
As a jazz singer, Elana has received high accolades. She was named Best Jazz Artist at the Musicoz awards in 2004; she won the prestigious National Jazz Award competition in Wangaratta and was a semi finalist in the Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition in Switzerland in 2005.
From 2003 – 2009 The Elana Stone Band toured Europe and appeared at festivals around Australia including the Perth International Arts Festival, Sydney Festival, Melbourne International and Fringe Festivals. Elana has supported such artists as Washington, Holly Throsby, Jackson Jackson, Bluejuice and Kate Miller-Heidke.
In 2008 Elana joined forces with brilliant guitarist/singer/composer/producer Brian Campeau to create ‘The Rescue Ships’. They toured together for 4 years and released an EP and two singles. From 2009-2011 Elana toured with well-loved Melbourne group Tripod. They took ‘Tripod vs The Dragon’ to London, Edinburgh and the States and received rave reviews.
She returned to Sydney in 2013 armed with hindsight and big hooks. Her new single 'Sleep Doesn’t Come', produced by Zebra Zap, articulates this. She is due to launch her new solo EP ‘Duck for Cover’ in 2014, accompanied by a national tour.
Elana also plays accordion and sings in All Our Exes Live in Texas, a fantasy draft of Sydney musical talent – Elana Stone, Katie Wighton, Hannah Crofts and Georgia Mooney on accordion, guitar, ukelele and mandolin respectively. All crackerjack performers in their own right, here combining like a Voltron of musical tastiness. All Our Exes evoke classic bluegrass and share the “entertainment is not a dirty word” credo with some of the greats of country music.
