AUSTRALIAN CHINESE MUSIC YOUTH ENSEMBLE

Led by Sydney Conservatorium conductor Bradley Lucas, this ensemble is for students who wish to play in an ensemble based on traditional Chinese instruments.  Rehearsals will explore repertoire specifically composed for the ensemble, building skills of listening and ensemble playing as well as knowledge of different styles.

The ensemble will be drawn from the following instruments:

Erhu

Pipa

Ruan

Guzheng

Dizi

Keyboard

The program is open to school students between 12 and 18 yrs old who have been playing their instrument for 2-3 years.  The ensemble rehearses at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music one afternoon a week between 4:30pm and 6pm and the year’s program consists of four 8-week terms commencing in February.  Students are required to provide their own instruments.

Entrance to the program is by audition and students who successfully pass the audition will be asked to join the program for a full year.

At the end of each second term an informal concert will be held for family and friends.

The cost of the program will be $1,400 for the full year.  Payment plans can be arranged on request.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Auditions to join the program will be conducted live.  Students will be asked to prepare one short piece demonstrating their ability on the instrument.  The pieces must be played unaccompanied.  Students will also be sent a set piece to prepare and will be asked to sight-read a short excerpt during the audition.

The Auditions will be held at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music on Tuesday 10 December from 4:30pm.
