Piano for Continuers is designed for the advanced beginner who has completed Piano for Beginners Level 4 and would like to continue to learn more challenging repertoire in a group context.
The focus of the course will be on further development of piano technique, as well as exploring the inner workings of pieces, and how to emotionally connect for more expressive, nuanced and confident performances. A feature of the course, and a key part of each class, will be the preparation of a piece of your own selection. This choice will be finalised in consultation with your teacher in the first class.
Prospective students should have developing skills and strategies in note reading, experience with basic technical work, and strategies to approach piano pieces in varying keys and hand positions.
The course will be taken at a speed, best supplemented with at least 30 minutes of daily practice throughout the duration of the course.
Piano for Continuers will cover more advanced aspects of learning the piano, including:
• Theoretical concepts embedded in class repertoire
• Targeted exercises to further develop technical ability and confidence at the keyboard
• Sight reading exercises to practise and advance reading skills
• Class ensemble repertoire
• Your own choice of piece (finalised with your teacher in Week 1)
• Performance workshops to address performance anxiety and develop skills to help perform to your best ability.
PLEASE BRING:
• Copies of 2-3 possible selections for your own piece choice
• Display folder for storing handouts
• Note pad, pencil and eraser.
