Piano for Beginners Level 4

Taught in the keyboard lab on weighted digital keyboards, level 4 is designed for the advanced beginner, who is familiar with the notes of the keyboard, has prior understanding of note reading, and experience with basic technical work and piano pieces in varying hand positions.

Over 8 weeks, students will be taken through an intensive course exploring popular and movie music. The course will include technical work, music reading, basic chord symbol comprehension, pedal technique, and basic music writing/composition to start getting your own masterpiece onto paper!

The course will be taken at a speed, best supplemented with 20 minutes of daily practice throughout the duration of the course.

PLEASE BRING: Note pad, pencil and eraser.

Level 4 will cover aspects of learning the piano, including:

• Understanding keys and how they relate to one another using the cycle of 5ths.

• Technical development, through exercises that will be used throughout the duration of the course and will be of continuing use after the completion of the course.

• Artistic use of the sustain and una corda pedals to colour your playing.

• Basic chord symbol reading and application (please note this will not include Jazz symbol reading)

• Basic aural perception

• Exploration of popular and movie music with a dash of classical.

ENTRY LEVEL: Completion of level 3 - Piano for Beginners, or proficiency in note reading and prior experience with basic piano music of varying keys and hand positions.
