The Contemporary Vocal Studio is designed to further develop the skills of vocal students. This class is for students who have intermediate to advanced singing experience that they would like to develop in more detail. The class is designed to strengthen and refine students vocal and performance skills and to assist singers in developing their own sound, equipping them with the skills to get the best out of their voices. Students will experience a range of styles including pop, jazz, blues and soul music. This class can be taken multiple times, allowing students to continue developing their skills and confidence with each class. Students who have completed the course a few times may be invited to take part in an advanced performance class.
Entry level: This course is suitable for intermediate to advanced singers with previous vocal training.
Students will have the opportunity to sing individually with Jo in order to focus on the areas that are most important to each student’s individual development. These individual workshops will culminate with in class performances for your classmates at the end of the term.
Students will explore:
Vocal exercises to expand their range, strengthen the voice & build stamina
Advanced breathing and support
Registration and resonance
Advanced Voice Science & Anatomy
Honing your own sound and vocal tone
When and how to practise and how to problem solve
Understanding style – How to sing different styles of music
Ear training and harmony skills
Basic improvisation and vocal effects
This is a friendly and safe environment for students to explore their own voices whilst learning to develop their sound.
NOTE: Students are expected to bring 3 to 4 songs to the first class (sheet music not required for week 1 but you will need to purchase the sheet music after confirming your chosen song. The average cost of this is $10). Jo will help each student pick a song which they will work on from those options.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT THIS COURSE
I cannot fault this course. A great format to continue building on skills and learning fromothers in an incredibly supportive and caring environment that Jo creates.
Jo is the best music teacher I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I feel very grateful that she finds time in amongst her busy professional commitments to lend us her talents, guidance and wisdom. Looking forward to coming back to one of Jo's classes again in the future.
Jo is the most proficient performer and teacher I have ever met. Moreover, she is the best in establishing a close connection with each of her students. Incredible!
I'm a serial attender, and know from prior experience that Jo is great at what she does! This was a term which really showed that off in the way she assessed, directed and encouraged each of us in our individual journeys. The class' easy camaraderie helped us all progress faster, too. We all rose together in the concert. Just wow!
