JANET DAVIES
Janet’s work is supported by 30 years of study and experience in applying AT principles to music pedagogy and performance. She is an international leader in the field. Her unique and innovative teaching methods combine wide musical experience, skilled hands-on work and a detailed knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and modern instrumental pedagogy. She unpacks and demystifies the ‘intangibles’ of AT for musicians in such a way as to support their musical endeavours and facilitate immediate improvements in all aspects of playing and performance.
Janet:
- completed a 3-yr full time Alexander Technique (AT) teacher training in 1985
- was a core member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra and teaches violin at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music
- conducts classes for the Sydney Symphony, Australian Opera & Ballet and NZ Symphony Orchestras.
- has worked with leading international AT and violin teachers as a Churchill Fellow
- has researched risk factors for musicians' pain and injuries
- has designed a curriculum in AT specifically for Australian orchestral players (part of Sydney University’s Sound Practice Project)
