How to apply
Please ensure you read the elibigility requirements for your selected instrument.
The accepted platform for video submission is Youtube (unlisted video). Videos should be unedited, with all recorded pieces performed consecutively in the same video. Physical copies will not be accepted.
Students will only receive the results of their audition, not feedback.
Targeted Instrument Scholarships Available
To encourage talented students who perform on Double Bass, a Woodwind or a Brass instrument, there will be up to 5 part-scholarships available for entry into Semester 1 2024, pending the outcome of the auditions. This will provide a reduction in the program fees for exceptional auditionees.

Auditions are held at the end of each year, with applications opening in September for auditions held in late October. There are no mid-year auditions for entry into the Rising Stars program.

Rising Stars Audition - Piano

Rising Stars Audition - Woodwind

1. Video submissions close on Monday 16th October at 5pm. Submissions received after this time will not be accepted.
2. Applicants are required to present two contrasting pieces, showing a range of musical and technical skill. One study and one piece is recommended. Please ensure that the video captures at least the upper body of the student, including finger combinations, embouchure, and breathing technique. Piano accompaniment is not required. The recording should be one continuous video, without editing. Students should perform each piece consecutively in the video
3. Woodwind applicants will also be required to present one prepared piece/excerpt, which will be sent to you on Monday 2nd October. Accompaniment is not required.
4. Students who pass the Video Round of auditions will be invited to participate in the Live Audition Round. This will take place at the Sydney Conservatorium afterschool on a weekday between the 6th and 17th November. Dates will be confirmed following completion of the First Round.
5. Students who are successful in auditioning for the Rising Stars program are required to participate in the Music Skills Diagnostic Test. Dates and times will be confirmed at a later date.

Rising Stars Audition - Organ

...Auditions for Organ are planned to take place at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music on Friday 10th November from 3:30pm. This is subject to change
1. Applications close on Monday 16th October at 5pm.
2. An individual audition timeslot will be allocated to you. You will be notified of your timeslot by Friday 27th October.
3. Your audition will be between 3.30pm and 6pm on Friday 10th November (subject to change). If there is a specific time that you will not be available, please inform us immediately to aid with scheduling.
4. Students who are successful in auditioning for the Rising Stars program are required to participate in the Music Skills Diagnostic Assessment which will be held at a later date. This assessment will not impact your place in the program and will only be used to assign students to the correct Music Skills classes for next year.
Eligibility: Applications are invited from advanced pianists (at least A Mus A level piano) as well as from any students already learning organ who will be in school Years 7 – 10 next year.
Students will be required to play (on piano or organ, as appropriate):
1. A piece of your choice (max 5-6 minutes duration – on piano or organ, as appropriate);
2. A prepared hymn in four-part harmony (music will be sent to you along with confirmation of your audition time)
You should play a short Introduction (“play-over”, not a spoken introduction) and then one verse of the hymn, as if accompanying a choir
3. Sight-read a hymn in 4-part harmony
4. Sight-read a very simple organ piece at the instrument (all necessary assistance will be given)
No technical work, piano accompaniment, or general knowledge is required. Applicants will be allocated an audition time within the time range indicated, and notified of this at a later date.

Students wishing to join Rising Stars Jazz will be auditioned. Backline and frontline instrumentalists are welcome to apply. The Auditions will be held at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music on Tuesday 30th November from 4:30pm.
Applications are invited from students who have been playing their instrument for at least ?? years and are over the age of 12 (10? 12? High school?)
Students will attend a live audition where they will be required to ???? – this needs to be detailed
No piano accompaniment, scales, or general knowledge is required.
Music Skills Diagnostic Assessment:
In addition to the instrumental audition, all successful applicants will be required to sit a Music Skills Diagnostic Assessment. Attendance at this assessment is compulsory for all successful applicants. The assessment is used to determine the appropriate level of Music Skills class for each student. The result of this assessment has no impact on whether or not the student is offered a place.
