Students will be required to play (on piano or organ, as appropriate):

2. A prepared hymn in four-part harmony (music will be sent to you along with confirmation of your audition time)
You should play a short Introduction (“play-over”, not a spoken introduction) and then one verse of the hymn, as if accompanying a choir
3. Sight-read a hymn in 4-part harmony
4. Sight-read a very simple organ piece at the instrument (all necessary assistance will be given)

No technical work, piano accompaniment, or general knowledge is required. Applicants will be allocated an audition time within the time range indicated, and notified of this at a later date.

Music Skills Diagnostic Assessment:
In addition to the instrumental audition, all successful applicants will be required to sit a Music Skills Diagnostic Assessment, which will be held online via Zoom. Attendance at this assessment is compulsory for all successful applicants. The assessment is used to determine the appropriate level of Music Skills class for each student. The result of this assessment has no impact on whether or not the student is offered a place.

Rising Stars Teacher Testimonial

Philip, Organ teacher
A very well-endowed scholarship fund for organ students has recently made it possible for “the King of Instruments” (Mozart) to be added to the list of those offered in the Rising Stars program. The Conservatorium’s state-of-the-art virtual organ brings some of the greatest pipe organs of Europe into a dedicated teaching studio, where students get to experience first-hand the actual sounds that Bach and other great composers had in mind when writing for organ. Thanks to this unique resource, students also learn to work interactively with very reverberant acoustical spaces – as if they were seated at the console of the cathedral organ itself.
