...
This is a face to face class at the Conservatorium building For adults (minimum age 16) Entry requirements: Ability to read music*. Some previous vocal tuition. All students are required to present a song in front of the class in Week 1 accompanied by Alan. Please come with a song prepared and 2 copies of the vocal score (piano and vocal parts together in one score), one for the pianist and one for you either taped together, bound or in a display folder. Performance from memory is encouraged but not required. *(but you do not have to be a great sight singer)

If there isn't a class to suit you, please the waiting list.

Classical Song will explore the techniques, skills, and style needed to sing the breadth of classical repertoire from Art Song to Opera. This course is designed for singers who wish to develop more confident solo performance.

The course will cover vocal and stylistic interpretation, working with an accompanist, language and diction, connecting with your audience and performing confidence, culminating in a concert in the final week.

Singers should feel able to give a solo performance in front of the class in a friendly, supportive environment from Week 1. They will need to have three or four songs to work on during the course. Pdf copies of the music will need to be emailed in advance and for online classes, recorded accompaniments can be sourced by the singers or will be provided. Both tutors are happy to advise on the choice of material. Once you have enrolled send us an email via the contact us page and if you need some advice on repertoire we’ll put you in touch.

WHAT STUDENTS SAY ABOUT THIS COURSE

It was a shame not to do the real life performance at the end but what we did online was still good and very instructive. I still really enjoyed the course and was very happy that Christina and Alan (and the Con) found a way to continue the classes despite the current COVID-19 issues. Thank you!(REGARDING ONLINE LEARNING)

Christina and Alan both have a wealth of knowledge and experience as teachers, and I feel the personalized feedback given in each class as well as the general advice helped me to take my singing to the next level. The highlight of the course was the end of term concert where we had a wonderful opportunity to perform on stage, with a professional accompanist. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this course to anyone who enjoys singing in a small, friendly group setting and wants to improve their technique.

Christina gave me extremely valuable tips on how to present myself on stage for solo performances such as those I do for Eisteddfods & Auditions whilst Alan really assisted me greatly in keeping to time and pronouncing words & phrases in english but more importantly in Italian & other foreign languages. Both Christina & Alan gave excellent tips on how to prepare for performances & ensure that nerves did not overtake & ruin our performances.

both Alan & Christina were fabulous!
