Piano for Continuers – Level 2
Piano for Continuers – Level 2 is designed for advanced beginners who are already comfortable playing at approximately AMEB Grade 3 standard or above.
This level builds the skills developed in Level 1 and moves at a faster pace. The course places greater emphasis on technical control, stylistic awareness, interpretation, and expressive performance. Students prepare an individual piece, finalised in the first class, that reflects the increased technical and musical demands of this level.
Students should have secure note‑reading skills, experience across a range of keys and hand positions, and familiarity with technical exercises. A minimum of 30 minutes of daily practice is expected.
The course covers:
· Technical work focusing on fluency, control, and keyboard confidence
· Musical and stylistic concepts embedded within the repertoire
· More challenging sight reading
· Ensemble repertoire with increased rhythmic complexity
· Preparation of an individually selected piece
· Performance workshops focusing on confidence and stage presentation
Please bring
· Copies of 2–3 possible pieces for individual study
· Display folder for handouts
· Notepad
· Pencil and eraser
Entry level
AMEB Grade 3 standard or above (or equivalent).
Students without this background should email con.openacademy@sydney.edu.au with details of their experience or AMEB results. A short audition video may be requested to help place you at the most appropriate level.
