In Jazz Piano First Steps Level 3, students continue their study of Jazz Standards from the Great American Songbook and Jazz Masters. Students expand on their knowledge and skills gained in Level 2 in arranging tunes with a variety of approaches including for solo piano, piano accompaniment for a singer or instrumentalist, and also ensemble playing. 

Iconic forms such as Rhythm Changes and Minor Blues are explored as well as definitive standards such as Body and Soul, Stella by Starlight, It Could Happen to You. 

Students will further develop listening skills and aural skills appropriate for jazz so that they can further their skills in Jazz Piano techniques. By the end of this course students will have deepened understanding and knowledge of the Jazz idiom with particular focus on skills such as comping, improvisation and utilising chord voicings in tunes.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:  Completion of Jazz Piano: First Steps level 2 or discussion with tutor.  Must have a sound knowledge of scales, key signatures and 7th chords.
