In Jazz Piano First Steps Level 4 students continue their study of Jazz Standards from the Great American Songbook and Jazz Masters. 

Students expand on their knowledge and skills gained in Levels 1, 2 and 3 arranging tunes with a variety of approaches including for solo piano, piano accompaniment for a singer or instrumentalist, and also ensemble playing. 

Students will continue to explore Latin and Swing rhythm feels as well as developing approaches to Jazz Funk and Pop popularised by artists such as Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder. 

Students will consolidate and add to their skills with attention to more complete arrangements of tunes with introductions, outros, fills and runs. 

Students will continue to develop listening and aural skills essential to jazz and further develop their jazz language by learning improvisation techniques used by jazz piano masters. 

By the end of this course students will have deepened understanding and knowledge of the jazz idiom with particular focus on skills such as comping, bass lines improvisation and utilising chord voicings in tunes.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Completion of Jazz Piano: First Steps level 3
• Must have a sound knowledge of scales, key signatures and 7th chords
