Piano for Beginners Level 3

Taught in the keyboard lab on weighted digital keyboards, level 3 is designed for the advanced beginner, who is familiar with the notes of the keyboard, has prior understanding of note reading, and experience with basic technical work and piano pieces in varying hand positions.
Over 8 weeks, students will be taken through an intensive course of technical work, finger training, sight reading skill, pedal use, basic chord symbol reading, and exploration of basic piano literature in varying hand positions, as well as ensemble playing.
The course will be taken at a speed, best supplemented with 20 minutes of daily practice throughout the duration of the course.

Level 3 will cover aspects of learning the piano, including:
• Understanding keys, and accompanying 2-octave scales and arpeggios of keys up to 3 sharps and 3 flats.
-Technical development, through exercises that will be used throughout the duration of the course and will be of continuing use after the completion of the course.
• Repertoire that requires use of the sustain pedal
• Basic chord symbol reading and application
• Sight reading technique
• Expansion of repertoire, (both solo and ensemble) and how to approach playing the piano at the completion of the course.
ENTRY LEVEL: Completion of level 2, Piano for Beginners, or proficiency in note reading and prior experience with basic piano music of varying keys and hand positions.
