This class is for Students auditioning to join the Rising Stars Jazz Program in 2026.

There are 2 rounds. A video round (due 5pm Monday 17th November), and a live round (held Monday 1st December from 330pm).

Please note, there is no in person activity on Monday 17th November. This is just the due date and time for your audition enrolment and video application to be received.

Videos should be uploaded to YouTube following the instructions provided below, and emailed to con.openacademy@sydney.edu.au.

Successful students will join the program from Semester 1 2026.

Jazz Ensembles - Audition

These classes are designed for students who wish to develop confident improvisation, aural and sight reading skills. They provide an ensemble-based environment for the development of personal jazz skills, along with an understanding of the dynamics at work in a small performance group. Soul Ensemble -Audition

These classes are designed to introduce the student to a broad range of classic Soul and Rhythm ’n’ Blues music styles. Key features of this broad genre are revealed through the performance of historically important repertoire from the 1950s/60s/70s through to the present era. Impro Basics

This course is designed for musicians with no background in improvisation. You will need some basic level of understanding how to read music and chord charts. It provides students with an opportunity to learn elementary theoretical concepts, historical knowledge and basic skills in the art of jazz improvisation.
