How to apply All students must enrol in an audition to be considered to join the Rising Stars Program. Applications are invited from students who have been playing their instrument for at least 3 years and are over the age of 10. Backline and frontline instrumentalists are welcome to apply. This class is for Students auditioning to join the Rising Stars Jazz Program in Semester 2 2026.

There are 2 rounds. A video round (due 5pm Monday 15th June), and a live round (held Monday 29th June from 330pm).

Please note, there is no in person activity on Monday 15th June. This is just the due date and time for your audition enrolment and video application to be received.

Videos should be uploaded to YouTube following the instructions provided below, and emailed to con.openacademy@sydney.edu.au.

Successful students will join the program from Semester 2 2026.

These classes are designed for students who wish to develop confident improvisation, aural and sight-reading skills. They provide an ensemble-based environment for the development of personal jazz skills, along with an understanding of the dynamics at work in a small performance group. Instruments welcome to apply are: Flute/Piccolo, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Cor Anglais, Saxophone. All students must enrol in an audition to be considered to join the Rising Stars Program.
