Jazz Ensembles - Audition

These classes are designed for students who wish to develop confident improvisation, aural and sight-reading skills. They provide an ensemble-based environment for the development of personal jazz skills, along with an understanding of the dynamics at work in a small performance group. THIS IS A LIVE AUDITION - You will receive an email 1 week before the audition date to inform you of your audition time.

JAZZ ENSEMBLES COMMENCE ON THE FOLLOWING DATES:

  • Monday 12 OCTOBER 6-8pm (tutor - Andrew Dickeson)
  • Tuesday 13 OCTOBER 6-8pm (tutor - Karl Laskowski)
  • Wednesday 14 OCTOBER 6-8pm (tutor - Bernice Tesara)
  • Thursday 15 OCTOBER 6-8pm (tutor - Michael Bartolomei)

Any woodwind or brass instrument will be considered for the 'horn' positions.

The fee for the 8-week term is $610. If you enrol for an audition by 29 JUNE (end of early bird offer) you will only pay the Early Bird rate for the term $536.80 (12% discount), providing you are successful at audition. If you are a full-time student or hold a current pension/healthcare card, you are eligible for a 15% discount. You can enter your ID number at checkout to receive this discount. 

PLEASE NOTE: 
We will only audition positions that are vacant. Current students have first option to re-enrol. We will inform you if there are no spots available to audition for ASAP and refund your audition fee.

Contemporary Vocal Studio - Audition

A short audition will be conducted for this course.  You will need to enrol for the audition.   If you are a returning Contemporary Vocal Studio student wishing to enrol again for next term, please email the team to be considered for re-enrolment. Please prepare A verse and a chorus from 2 contrasting songs (e.g. a ballad and an up-tempo song) to be sung a cappella. THIS IS A FACE-TO-FACE AUDITION

Notification of your specific 10 min audition time will be sent the week prior to the audition date.

Once you have passed your audition you will be emailed a link to enrol in the term class. The fee for the 8-week term will be $520. If you enrol for an audition by 29 June, you will only pay the Early Bird rate $457.60 (12% discount) for the term, providing you are successful at audition. If you are a current full-time student or hold a current pension/healthcare card, you are eligible for a 15% discount.

Audition applications to join the Rising Stars Organ program close on Monday 12th October at 5pm. A live audition will be then scheduled depending on the number of applicants.

1. An individual audition timeslot will be allocated to you once enrolments are complete.
2. Students who are successful in auditioning for the Rising Stars program are required to participate in the Music Skills Diagnostic Assessment which will be held at a later date. This assessment will not impact your place in the program and will only be used to assign students to the correct Music Skills classes for next year.

Eligibility: Applications are invited from advanced pianists (at least A Mus A level piano) as well as from any students already learning organ who will be in school Years 7 – 10 next year.

Students will be required to play (on piano or organ, as appropriate):
1. A piece of your choice (max 5-6 minutes duration – on piano or organ, as appropriate);
2. A prepared hymn in four-part harmony (music will be sent to you along with confirmation of your audition time)
You should play a short Introduction (“play-over”, not a spoken introduction) and then one verse of the hymn, as if accompanying a choir
3. Sight-read a hymn in 4-part harmony
4. Sight-read a very simple organ piece at the instrument (all necessary assistance will be given)

No technical work, piano accompaniment, or general knowledge is required. Applicants will be allocated an audition time within the time range indicated, and notified of this at a later date.
